This week in Science Club, the students took part in a variety of practical Science experiments to test their skills on listening, following instructions, and general Science knowledge from their lessons. These enrichment opportunities, made possible through support from Wickersley Partnership Trust, help enhance students’ learning experiences beyond the classroom.
There were five different tasks:
1) Conclusion to the Celery Science – the students set this up last week and looked at how the food colouring they had put into the bottom of the jar had affected the celery. They were impressed when they saw the food dye had risen to the top of the celery through the xylem, and they could see this as they cut the celery up with food colouring being at the different points of the celery.
2) Bouncing Balls – students used Borax replacement powder, water, glue, and cornstarch to make their own Bouncing Ball.
3) Making Rain – everyone put some water in a beaker, then put shaving foam on top. Once it was settled in position, the students put several drops of different food colouring onto the foam and watched how it travelled through the foam into the water.
4) Slime & Oobleck – with the remaining materials, students investigated different ways of making slime and Oobleck.
5) Smoothies – students took fresh fruit and made smoothies to take home and enjoy.
Everyone did such a fantastic job, well done!
