TA Science Club

This week in Science Club, students took on an exciting challenge: to design, build, and test their own volcanoes using knowledge from previous lessons.

The project had three parts:

  • Preparing the eruption mix – pupils combined sodium bicarbonate, salt, and food colouring in a small container.
  • Building the volcano – they used a larger cup, card, and tin foil to create the volcano structure, decorating it with paints and placing it in a tray.
  • Erupting the volcano – the eruption mix was added to the structure with washing-up liquid and vinegar, and pupils observed the chemical reaction. They experimented with different amounts of vinegar and bicarbonate to see how it affected the eruption.

The students demonstrated great understanding, problem-solving, and adaptability, learning from trial and error to improve their results. A fantastic display of scientific thinking!
