TA Science Club

This week in Science Club, the pupils took part in three exciting activities:

  • Fruit Batteries – Pupils used lemons, oranges, pineapple juice, grapefruit juice, and cranberry juice with a voltmeter, crocodile clips, leads, and copper/zinc electrodes to create simple circuits. They measured the voltage produced by each fruit or juice to see which could, in theory, power a mobile phone.

  • Rainbow in a Jar – Pupils explored density by layering different solutions to create a rainbow effect. Using purple-coloured ethanol, golden syrup, water with food colouring, cooking oil, and washing-up liquid, they carefully poured each solution down the centre of a jar and watched as the liquids separated according to their densities.

  • Bouncing Balls – Using cornstarch, glue, water, food colouring, and borax powder, pupils followed instructions to create bouncing balls. They experimented with the mixture to adjust the strength and bounce of their balls, learning through trial and error.

Next week, students will be making Christmas-themed bath bombs as part of our festive STEM fun – see you there!
