Year 7 Visit the Madina Masjid Mosque

Recently our Year 7 students visited the Madina Masjid Mosque in Sheffield as part of our entitlement curriculum.

The Religious Education department believes that experiences such as visits to places of worship and talks from visiting speakers provide students the opportunity to broaden their knowledge and understanding of different beliefs beyond what we learn about in the classroom.

The visit allowed students to recognise that we live in a diverse world, practice how to engage with others in a respectful way and understand a variety of viewpoints, which are all elements of the RE Way that is followed in lessons.

Here’s what RE Ambassador Gracie Drabble had to say about the visit: “On this RE trip to the Mosque we had a tour guide called Zahid and he showed us around the entire Mosque. Zahid taught us about how the people attending the Mosque clean themselves before praying. This is called Wudu. He taught us about the pilgrimage to Mecca and showed us a photo of the Ka’ba. He also spoke about fasting and the Qur’an (the Muslim holy book). He took us into various rooms in the Mosque and demonstrated how Muslims pray. He was very encouraging about asking questions which I found very helpful because some people were quite unsure about asking questions but with his encouragement people asked and got their answer. I think this trip was very helpful because we are going to be learning about Islam and this is their place of worship.”

Thrybergh Academy would like to thank Zahid and the Madina Masjid for allowing us to visit.
