Celebrating the Life of Mr Palmer

We are saddened to hear the passing of former Head of School – Melvin Palmer.

Mr Palmer was a Thrybergh student and, after finishing University, taught for over 30 years at Thrybergh School.

He was loved and respected as a consummate professional, charismatic, an exceptional teacher, leader and a warm and generous human being by his many friends and colleagues within Thrybergh’s community and beyond.

Melvin’s contribution to the educational and the community life of Thrybergh is entirely unique. His character is woven in thousands of trainee teachers and staff who he trained, led and developed.

He encountered many changes over his long years of service, providing a constant in an ever changing educational landscape.

After leaving Thrybergh in 2014 Melvin became Course Leader and Senior Lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University, where he continued to train the next generation of teachers. His legacy is unrivalled and his mark will be left on generations to come.

There will be a further, longer lasting tribute at a later stage and we give Melvin’s family our sincerest condolences.

Please leave any memories, well wishes and stories in the comments and we will pass them onto Melvin’s family.

Mr Palmer – thank you for everything.
