TA Science Club

This week in Science Club, students continued exploring our STEM theme by learning how to create their own volcanoes and investigating the chemical reactions behind a volcanic eruption. They used everyday household materials to build and decorate their volcano models. They folded and cut a piece of A5 card to create a volcano-shaped opening that fitted over a plastic container, then painted it in volcanic colours and left it to dry.

While their models dried, the students prepared their mixtures using sodium hydrogen carbonate, salt, washing-up liquid and food colouring. They then quickly added 200ml of vinegar and watched as their homemade volcanoes erupted! This hands-on activity was a great way to develop their practical science skills, explore chemical reactions and see science in action.
