OFF ROAD BIKES

Off Road Bikes:

You can legally ride on:

• Private land with the land owners permission
• Legitimate bike club

Bikes cannot be driven on public roads unless:

• They are made for the highway
• The bike is taxed
• The bike is insured
• The bike has a valid MOT certificate
• Be registered with the DVLA
• The rider needs a current driving licence
• The rider must wear a helmet
  

Other Bike offences:

• Paths are classed as highway so even pushing a bike on a footpath you still need tax, test and insurance
• It is an offence to ride a motorcycle on all Council land - parks, playing fields etc
• Damage caused to the surface of a playing field or to a private landowners crops is criminal damage and can lead to arrest. Compensation can be claimed for the damage caused

"These bikes are being ridden with no regard for local residents. They are noisy, disruptive and dangerous and we are determined that those who continue to flout the law will be delt with."

What Will Happen

• You can expect:
• Receive a warning
• If seen again your bike can be seized
• To receive points on your licence even before you hold one

How to get your bike back?

You can expect:

• Once your bike is seized it costs £117 to get it back
• Plus £12 per day storage charges
• Unclaimed bikes are crushed after 28 days
