LEISURE & TOURISM DEPARTMENT

Leisure and Tourism

• This is a double option and will take up 6 lessons a week!!
• It is worth 2 GCSE’s
• Over the 2 year course you will study 3 units

Unit 1: Investigating Leisure and tourism
Unit 2: Marketing Leisure and tourism
Unit 3: Customer service in leisure and tourism

Units 2 and 3 are internally assessed (by the teacher) in the form of portfolios. Unit 1 is externally tested (exam).

The final grade is an aggregation of the unit results!!!!

You will take the Unit 1 examination twice! These will be in the summer of year 10 and then in the summer of year 11. Your highest grade from the 2 exams will go forward and will contribute towards your final grade.

Unit 2 coursework will focus on the marketing aspect of Leisure and Tourism where we will visit and study Magna.
Unit 3 coursework will focus on the customer service aspect of Leisure and Tourism where we will visit and study Carlton Park Hotel.

You will visit several Leisure and Tourism organisations throughout the course which will help build up a greater understanding of how the industries work together. For Example Alton Towers, Magna, Carlton Park Hotel, Rother Valley Country Park, a local Airport, a sports stadium, a leisure centre and a library.

There will also be a variety of outside speakers who will come into school and talk to you about their involvement in the Leisure and Tourism industry.
