Table Tennis
In September 2008 Thrybergh School and Sports College (TSSC) teamed up with the Rotherham Scorpions Table Tennis club. This school-club link was set up to increase the number of pupils playing sport, increase the number of pupils playing competitive table tennis and to invite players that are good enough to play at a higher level with Rotherham Scorpions Table Tennis Club.
Alan Dunn has raised the profile of table tennis, increased the number of pupils playing competitively and is helping the staff at the school deliver a great product both in the curriculum and after school hours.
Table tennis has not previously been high profile in Rotherham but the pupils at TSSC have taken to table tennis and sessions are very well attended with pupils of all age groups taking part. Alan has managed to strike the right balance in leading sessions that improve the ability of the players whilst providing maximum enjoyment.
The table tennis club currently takes place on a Tuesday night after school (3pm – 4.15pm) and has been a massive success. It has managed to attract some of our most talented pupils but also pupils that don’t play any other sport after school, which is really important for us. We now look forward to our players competing at inter school competitions and maybe representing the Rotherham Scorpions at some stage.
Alan stated that:
“Rotherham Scorpions TTC is really looking to built up good working relationship with Thrybergh Sport College. Table Tennis is the most popular racket sport in the world-it's also the fastest racket sport due to the close proximity of the opposition, no other racket sport imparts spin on a ball with the same intensity as a top TT player can. In short Table Tennis is the Greatest Sport in the World!
Get involved at Thrybergh with Scorpions TTC. The Scorpions Club is Clubmark accredited at Advanced level-we compete in Senior and Junior British League and has a pedigree 2nd to none. Indeed in the Regional U.15 team event, Scorpions have held the title for 6 of the last 7 years, proving too hot to handle, against out main City clubs of Leeds, Bradford, Hull, Sheffield etc. Watch this space for Thrybergh Table Tennis updates.”

The sessions are run on a Tuesday after school in the sports hall. If you are interested in coming to table tennis please see Mr Walker.

Table Tennis continues to grow in popularity at Thrybergh School & Sports College. Pupils from Y7 – Y11 have continued to attend coaching sessions with Alan Dunn and their skill level has increased dramatically. Some pupils also attend Rotherham Scorpions training sessions at weekends taking their game to the next level.
