Dick Whittington
On Tuesday 5th and Wednesday 6th December 2007, several members of staff at Thrybergh Comprehensive school got into the Christmas spirit by performing the pantomime 'Dick Whittington'.
This traditional pantomime had a modern twist and proved a great success, putting a smile on the face of everyone who saw it. The audience were encouraged to sing along to songs old and new (and of course to shout out all the traditional lines of "he's behind you" and "oh no you're not" ) In the play, our hero, Dick Whittington goes to seek fame and fortune in the city of London, where, he is told, the streets are paved with Gold. On his journey he is asked help the ‘Bowbells’, an all girl group who have aspirations of winning the ‘Panto Pop Idol Competition’.
Picking his way through the good, the bad - and the ridiculous - Dick eventually overcomes all obstacles to find his sweetheart and finally become Lord Mayor of London.
Tickets for the two performances sold out quickly, and those of you who were lucky to see it will no doubt never forget the sight of Mr Donnelly dressed as a woman or Ms Coleman and Miss Smith dressed as cats. Not to mention Mr Cross and Mr Storer’s (deliberately) awful singing voices.

Rehearsals began back in October and the cast have been working hard whilst under the direction of Mr Montgomery and Mr Walker. Mr Montgomery would like to thank everybody who worked so hard and gave so freely of their time and effort in getting us all into the festive season. He has also advised any budding future stars of stage and screen to watch this space, as auditions for the next school play will take place soon after Christmas. |
