This has been another very successful term for Thrybergh School & Sports College and a landmark in the school’s development. As I wrote In the Christmas newsletter, we had been waiting all term for a visit from the Ofsted inspectors and we were looking forward to having formal acknowledgement of the progress we have made. As you know, they did finally come in January and judged the school to be good with outstanding features.
It was pleasing to read so many positive comments about the school and many people from across the borough have been in touch with me to offer their congratulations to us all. People did not believe me four years ago when I talked of becoming an outstanding school; the inspectors agreed that we are well on the way to becoming that outstanding school and indeed they judged many aspects of our work to be outstanding already.
Students’ attendance has improved continuously over the last 4 years. The whole school's attendance for 2005/06 from September to the end of Spring term was 82.3%, this is steadily improving with an average of 88.5% attendance so far this year. Persistent absence (the number of students with less than 80% attendance) continues with a 0.6% improvement so far since last year. We still have our sights on 92% as a target for overall attendance and we are on track for achieving this.
May I take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support; our success over the last few years has very much been a team effort and we would not have made so much progress so quickly without your support. We can all be very proud of what we have achieved.
