Year Seven, Eight and nine – Key Stage 3

We aim to enable all students to realise their full potential and encourage them to achieve their best. However, at the same time we accept that students do have individual learning needs. Therefore, students are in mixed ability tutor groups but grouped according to ability in individual teaching subjects.
We seek to meet the needs of all our students and a programme for special educational needs is provided under the guidance of our Learning Inclusion Team.

When Year 7 start school they follow a foundation year. This means that students are timetabled to work with fewer teachers than other years, the aim of which is to help Y7 students settle in. Cross Curricular Project Work using competencies creates a Curriculum which helps a smoother transition for students from Y6 to Y7.

Students study a common curriculum, although students may be withdrawn from certain subjects for a short time to boost basic skills.  We see it as vital that students who arrive at the school with Level 3 Literacy Skills, for example, are given focussed help to enable them to reach Level 4 as soon as possible.

The school currently operates a 30 period week for all years. All students in KS3 study
