MYSPACE / PROXY WEBSITES
There are an increasing number of students attempting to access MYSPACE/FACEBOOK type websites and using proxy bypass services to get around the school and LEA security filters.

There seems to be some confusion from students over whether this is allowed or not.

Students and staff are both prohibited under the school and LEA’s internet agreement from attempting to access restricted websites such as MYSPACE/FACEBOOK by using free proxy bypass services!!!

From the January 3rd 2008 the following inforcments apply:

1st Offence: 2 week ban
2nd Offence: 6 week ban
3rd Offence: Permanent ban

Meet Government guidelines
Under the latest Government guidelines, every school has a responsibility to safeguard their pupils and minimise the risk of serious abuse.

This includes measures to prevent cyber bullying, self-harm and predator grooming.

Securus Monitoring Software

Securus Monitoring Software
Pupils need to be protected from bullying and harm when they're using the school's network computers.

Too many schools rely on internet blocking software to keep their students safe. Blocking can be bypassed, while cyber bullying and offline misuse goes undetected. To help in protecting our students the school invests in the Securus technology that will help in the identification of this problem.

Securus allows the school computers to be monitored and abuse identified quickly. Screen shoots of the abuse along with the users name/computers location/time of abuse allows the ICT support staff to quickly react to the problem.

Guidelines on cyber bullying
As part of a mandatory anti-bullying policy, Securus helps local authorities, schools and grids for learning to follow guidelines laid down by DCSF, including measures to:

  • Apply a policy to monitor electronic messages and images

  • Monitor all e-communications used on a school site or as part of school activities off-site

  • Work with pupils and parents to make sure new communications technologies are used safely

  • Teach children safe internet behavior

  • Update internet blocking technologies continually and block harmful sites
