OAL at Thrybergh School and Sports College
With the new appointment of the School’s dedicated Outdoor Active Learning Instructor, some of the students have been given the opportunity to take part in more adventurous activities during their PE lessons.
The first term has seen groups take advantage of the new opportunities at Thrybergh Country Park. Students have learnt about the water sports equipment and how to control their kayaks in the windy conditions that the reservoir can offer.
Orienteering and nature walks have been enjoyed in the rural setting of the park.
In School, new activities like Archery have made an appearance on the School field. Many students are now claiming to be the new Maid Marian or Robin Hood.
New Problem Solving and Team Building activities have started to fill the PE Stores, this new equipment has created some new and interesting challenges to test the students ability to work together to create new and interesting solutions to the tasks.
The end of the term has seen work start on building the two new climbing walls. The new facility in the Sports Centre will allow indoor climbing lessons for the students to explore another new experience.
The new BTEC Sport (Outdoor Education) certificate is being enjoyed by the Yr 10’s who have been progressing well in kayaking and orienteering this term.
