Football Results 08/09
As the are drawing to a close, it is important to reflect on the progress the Y7 footballers have made since joining us in September. There has been a huge increase in team spirit, positional awareness and skill levels. This has been highlighted with the fact that in their 1st competitive game against St Bernard’s, we were on the losing end of a 6-2 score line. At our most recent game against Clifton we were victorious with 4-2. The introduction of ‘Futsal’ as an after school club has helped to develop the skills of the team They have been entered into a tournament at Sheffield United Academy in April.

The Year 9 footballers have continued to go from strength to strength over the latter half of the season producing some outstanding results in the process. The last 5 games have seen a return of 4 wins and 1 loss amassing 29 goals in the process conceding only 12. Interestingly, one of those victories came against a Brinsworth team who are now through to this seasons Rotherham Cup Final. If Thrybergh continue to make progress and keep the current squad together then we are optimistic that next season will be even better. Well done lads! |

Futsal - The Y7 football team
The Y7 football team have been trying a new sport this term. “Futsal” simply combines the Spanish words for ‘Hall’ – Sala and ‘Football’ – Futbol into Futsal. It is a five-a-side game, played with hockey sized goals and a smaller ball with a reduced bounce.

The game is fast paced and aims to improve control and skill levels in the winter months when there are no outdoor school fixtures. They have been entered into the Rotherham Schools Futsal League which will culminate in an inter-school tournament at Sheffield United FC Academy in 2009, and have made a positive start to the campaign with 1 win against Wingfield and 1 narrow loss by 1 goal against Clifton. The lads are improving every game and should do very well if all goes according to plan. |

Y9 Football
After a disappointing first two years on the pitch Thrybergh’s Year 9 team are now starting to show their true potential with some very encouraging results this season highlighted by the recent 11-2 victory against a very strong Brinsworth team.
Throughout Year 7 & 8 the team had been steadily improving with the margin of defeat getting smaller and smaller each game and it was only a matter of time before results started to mirror the performance and attitude of the team both on and off the pitch.
The first two results of the season seemed to be a continuation of previous year’s matches, in terms of the score line, with Thrybergh going down first to Brinsworth and then to Rawmarsh conceding 12 goals in the process. However, after a lot of hard work on the training ground, Thrybergh narrowly missed out on victories at both Maltby and Swinton conceding vital goals in the second half of both games. The fifth game of the season saw the visit of Wickersley who in previous years had amassed over 15 goals in 2 games against the team. After taking the lead however, Thrybergh again conceded vital goals in the second half eventually going down 2-4 after a thrilling game. Such was the improvement of the Thrybergh team the Wickersley manager, Mr Geoghegan, even commented that Thrybergh was by far the “most improved team in Rotherham”. Lifted by this performance Thrybergh next entertained Brinsworth and for the first time this season were able to field their strongest team. After a brilliant team performance Thrybergh eventually ran out comfortable winners scoring no less than 11 goals in the process whilst only conceding 2. Again, the manager of Brinsworth commented after the game that the teams improvement was immense whilst their conduct on and off the pitch was a credit to the school.
Unfortunately, due to the Christmas break, the team don’t have another fixture until the end of January but if they carry on with the progress they are making then I’m sure there will be many more days like the one against Brinsworth. Good Luck! |

On 26th March some our Y11 boys were involved in the Sheffield & District Cup Final. They play for the Herringthorpe Millers and won 2-1 against the Beighton Magpies. Dav-d Birkett & Aaron Guest scored the winning goals. Other lads involved were Brad Robinson, Danny Toseland, Dale Gott, Danny Morrison, Josh Andrew & Josh Griffin. The lads played well and were really pleased about what they had achieved. Give them a pat on the back if you bump into them!! |
