Primary School afternoon of Dance
On Tuesday 10th March an afternoon of Dance was held in the school Hall. Students from Primary Schools around the area have been having Dance lessons from Mr Walker - Dance specialist from Thrybergh SSC. Each school performed a different piece, using musical excerpts from the Lion King, Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and one school even doing a piece from the Nutcracker.
Some of the schools had been doing this since September but some had only been learning dance for 6 weeks. The afternoon was a complete success and was supported by parents and friends who came to watch. The Hall was totally full with standing room only for the last few to arrive. Tony Price, Primary Heads and the staff from the Primary Schools said how much the children had enjoyed doing this and how pleased they were at the success of this venture, and that they couldn’t wait to start on the next performance.
Dancing Towards Success
With the refurbishment of the Sports Centre, we have been fortunate to gain a superb dance facility within the school. With a wooded floor, mirrored walls and the hope of gaining a ballet bar, the future looks bright for dance at TSSC. We have already had one performance in the WOW factor by the BTEC Dance group and with the summer musical looming other opportunities are going to be open to all.
We are currently moving into the local primaries to promote dance to all ages for both social and physical activity. We are producing dances from West End shows including The Lion King, Wicked, Joseph, Grease, Mary Poppins and Cats. The enthusiasm throughout the groups is exceptional and we are hoping to move on to a performance after Christmas between January and February.
