The school is a mixed comprehensive, with approximately 600 students between eleven and sixteen on the roll and serves an area to the north-east of Rotherham, semi-rural in character despite the surrounding industrial environment and our students come from a wide variety of social backgrounds.
The original building was opened in 1956, since which time various additions have been made to improve the specialist facilities. These include the Sports Centre and extensions housing Technology rooms for Food, Graphics and Electronics and Studio equipment for both Health Related Exercise and Drama.
Accommodation also includes a library with fiction, reference and careers sections, five Science laboratories and a range of specialist rooms for English, Mathematics, Geography, History, Modern Languages (French), Art, Religious Education, Information and Communication Technology, Physical Education and the Learning Support Team.
The school has undergone an extensive refurbishment and building programme. A new building was opened in September 2005 and all the work was finished in summer 2006.
There are twenty acres of playing fields including football and rugby pictures, a cricket square, hockey pictures and a athletics track. The use of these facilities – together with the Thrybergh Sports Centre – enables us to offer the widest range of sporting opportunities to our students.
The Computer Learning Centre (CLC), located within the Spectrum Centre, offers the latest Multimedia Information Technology equipment for use by students, staff and the community.
