OLD NURSERY DEMOLISHED BY CLASS 3

On Wednesday 23rd November 2005, the old nursery at Dalton Foljambe Primary School was demolished. Children, teachers and parents were watching as the diggers went to work. The nursery was demolished because in March 2006, a new children’s centre will open at the school. It will look after children who are up to 5 years old. Anybody will be able to go who needs to use it.

When the JCB arrived at school, children, parents and teachers gathered around the fence and cheered as the building was pulled down. The loudest cheer went up when the front door was ripped off.
Mr Barnes, the school caretaker, said he saw some mice running out of the back door as the work continued. After two hours, all that was left was a pile of wood that looked like a huge bonfire.

Mrs Bartholomew, the headteacher, said, “I felt excited watching the demolition but I also felt a little sad to see the end of some old memories. Building the new children’s centre is going to be a really exciting time for the school.”

Lots of children at our school have happy memories of their time in the nursery. Jessica Hellewell (7) said, “I feel sad because the building has been up for a long time.”
Grant Whitmill (9) explained that he could still remember being in nursery when he was little, “I remember being a wise man in the Christmas Nativity play.” Although many of us are sad to see the nursery building disappear, we are looking forward to a better future with the new children’s centre.
